Cornets For Sale Updated Feb. 3, 2007
I need to thin my collection out
somewhat, as a result of many recent acquisitions. There is nothing "wrong" with these horns (except as noted) -- they are being offered as a result of my collecting insterests shifting, or due to having near
duplicates. Some will need valve overhauls to be daily players. Keep in mind that 80% of the vintage cornets sold on Ebay will need valve overhauls as well -- the difference is that you won't know until
you buy the horn. If the horn in question below needs a valve job, understand that if the valves were fine it would be priced that much higher. In any event, most collectors do not play their horns, but
display them. All of these are ready to display. They have been polished (fairly recently) and slides are free, valves aligned, corks and felts replaced, dents removed, and other repairs, if necessary, have
been performed. These cornets are being sold as-is, and are priced accordingly. Prices reflect either their condition as found, or the repairs which were required to put them in the condition you see.
PayPal is preferred, and all sales are final. SEE TERMS OF SALE BELOW. If a horn says "Sale Pending" that means I have been told that payment is being sent. It doesn't hurt to tell
me of your interest in one of these cornets, in case the prior deal falls through. ------------------------------------------------------------
Henry Lehnert "American Standard"
Bb/A c.1890 This is a very nice example from one of the premiere US makers of the late 19th century. The valves are very good, as is the
silver plate -- there's a very good chance this horn was overhauled some time in the past, but the work is very good. The gorgeous full-length engraving is completely crisp. I think this horn is a terrific
player, and it's in "low pitch" (A=440). It comes in a period (though non-original) top loading case, with Bb and A shanks, as well as a Lehnert mouthpiece. $875.00 SOLD! Conn Wonder Bb/A 1899 Serial 54318, nice
nearly complete outfit, including Bb and A shanks, Conn mpc, and lyre. Missing cleaning rod and mute. This Wonder has some minor wear to the finish, but features gorgesous full length engraving with gold
inlay. It had some dentwork performed on it by master repair techncian Rich Ita. The valves are original, but quite good -- it plays strong in the lower register, and has that wonderful vintage cornet
tone. Note that it is "high pitch" -- with the main slide puller quite a ways out, it will reach low pitch. You can also play it with the "A" shank, but it may be just a tad flat depending on your
mouthiece. $850 SOLD!
John Heald "Artistone" Bb/A
c.1915 Serial 2554, nice original complete outfit, including Bb and A shanks (A shank
damaged). Very rare "Artistone" long model, with rare full-length decorative bell engraving (most Healds had text only engraving). Would need valve refit to be a good player – Heald probably made each horn
by hand and are well-known to the collector community as being among the best players of the day. Has had some dent repair and the bottom valve caps are perfect reproductions by Robb Stewart (damaged originals
remain). Please email for more information on this. $875
SOLD! Conn New Wonder
(Victor) Bb/A 1914 Serial 137237, Incredible complete outfit, INCLUDING the horn's original "gurantee bond" cetificate, signed by Conn, and folded
brochure!! All high and low pitch slides are included, even the grease tin. Horn is in near mint original condition and is quite a player. $1,200.00 SOLD!
Conn Wonderphone #1 model, Bb/A Serial 106031, Conn mpc, non-original Conn case. Small bore, VG
condition. Valves are leaky and priced accordingly. $500 SOLD! Henry Distin Highest Grade
, Bb/A 1903 Serials 19751 / 17692, Gorgeous complete outfit includes Distin gold plated mpc.,
both low and high pitch slides, cleaning rod, Bb and A shanks, tuning bit and more. Cornet is highly engraved on multiple surfaces with gold trim and gold wash. Valves are still very good and plays strong from top
to bottom with a big fat tone. $1,150.00 SOLD!
Courtois Levy Model
Complete Outfit Serial 9985; about 1875. Beautiful condition with lots of accessories including Courtois mpc. in original coffin case. You
won't see many like this. $1050.00 SOLD! York Monarch Complete Outfit (photos of case) Serial 10138, about 1905. Beautiful original condition, with LP and HP slide, Bb & A shanks, and two York mpc's. Great gold inlay on bell engraving and inside
bell. These early Monarchs are some of the best playing cornets from that era; far better in my opinion than Conn or Holton. The valves on this are terrific and it is a wonderful player.
$775.00 SOLD! Courtois Levy Model Serial 20018, c. 1900. VG+, valves are on the brink of needing to be overhauled. HP, although with slide pulled far out will reach LP. Bb shank seems
to have been soldered in, or is quite stuck; I decided to leave it alone. Beautiful workmanship! $650 SOLD! Conn Connqueror #2 VOCAL
model, gold plated, complete outfit Serial 92292. This will play in C, Bb or A, in
either high or low pitch. VG++ condition, plays great! To see more pictures showing how it configures for the three keys, click here. $925
SOLD! Conn Connqueror
#1 model, Bb/A, gold plated, extra engraving Serial 79237, Seldom-seen #1 model,
even scarcer in gold plate. Includes gold Conn mpc. Valves are leaky (so priced to reflect the cost of a valve refit, still a great deal) No case. $475 SOLD! Rare Holton Short Model, gold plated, extra engraving Serial 5199. Gold Holton mpc., no case. Really pretty cornet. If you're going to own one Holton, this would be the one to have, as the engraving is plentiful
and gorgeous -- most Holtons had the bare minimum. Valves still good, plays well, Bb/A. $525 SOLD! C.G. Conn 48A Vocabell Serial 348612. 1942. One of the coolest "art deco" horns every created! This is near mint, satin
silver plated with gold bell wash in the original Conn pro style case. Includes original Conn mpc and Conn leather handguard. Was seldom if ever played. Very rare to see prewar examples of the 48A in silver
plate with "Pan the Piper" art deco engraving. $1150 SOLD!
Conn Wonder Bb/A Serial 14111. Early Wonder, some plating wear in handhold area;
has not been polished, but valves have been overhauled. Conn case. Shank is a replacement. $450 SOLD!

well. Seldom seen first model of the Perfecto. $500

TERMS OF SALE In general, and unless otherwise noted, these cornets have had the dents and dings removed, all slides are loose, and corks & felts have been replaced. They are generally in ready-to-play
condition, unless I have noted that the "valves are leaky". This means the valve pistons are worn from use over the decades, and no longer seal the airflow completely. The lowest notes, from around C down to
Gb, will be "weak", but otherwise playable to some degree. Having the valves overhauled costs between $150 and $200. Contact Nick DeCarlis.Payment must be a money order or through PayPal. Shipping
and Insurance charges are in addition to the purchase price, and there are no exceptions to this! I almost always ship U.S. Priority Mail, and
have found the service to be fast, safe and reliable after shipping many dozens of cornets this way. Because I try to charge "actual" shipping amounts, I may ask for an estimated amount with the intention of
refunding excess later, should there be any.
All sales are final.
I will do my best to describe the condition of the cornet, but I can't be in the position of shipping horns for "test runs" as it takes way too much time, and this is only a hobby for me, not a business. In any case, I think my pictures are far better and my descriptions more accurate than 90% of the cornets up for auction on Ebay, so you're taking much less of a chance. Occasionally instruments are being listed for friends, in which case you will be dealing directly with the seller -- I will not be responsible in any way
